Sound design was one of my courses in the first year, where we not only learned the theory behind it but also had to record your own foley sounds and voice overs. We had to recreate the sound design from a part of a God of War (2018) Trailer. Here are some of the foley sound I recorded together with two classmates in the studio in my university. The sounds were edited in Adobe Audition.
Listen here to how the recordings sound together.
And now the sounds by themselves:
A Boat
To create the sound of a boat that sways on a sea, we recorded how one of the students moved one of the big wooden cuboids through the studio.
Sharp Impact
To create a sharper impact sound on the wood for the axe, we recorded how one of my classmates hit that wooden cuboid with his knuckles.
Metal Impact
To make sure we also have some metal sounds for the axe impact, we recorded how I hit the lid of my metal pencil case with my fingernails.
The Eye
To create this greasy sound when the world serpent opens his eye, we recorded how I squeezed a wet paper towel.
Shattering Ice
To create the sound of shattering ice, we recorded how I dropped a key into an empty glass.
Cracking Ice
Because I thought the sound of the key in the glass was not convincing enough, I decided to record the sound of a squeezed plastic bag of sweets as well.
Dull Impact
To create a dull impact sound on the wood for the axe, we recorded how I hit the wooden cuboid with a big paper roll, one you usually use to send large papers by mail without folding them.
Swoosh
To create the sound of the axe flying through the air, we recorded how the other students swung different plastic hangers around.
